Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 2026
This is a preliminary privacy policy covering this website and the Confidant waitlist. We will replace it with a fuller policy before Confidant opens to the public, when we start handling bookings and payments.
1. Overview
Confidant (“we”, “us”, “our”) is building a service that helps people find and book a paid call with an advisor who has direct experience of the problem they are working on. This policy explains what personal information we collect through this website, how we use it, and the choices you have. We handle personal information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.
2. Information we collect
When you join the waitlist, you tell us:
- What best describes you, for example whether you are building a business or would like to be an advisor
- The area you need help with and the industry you are most trained in
- Your age range and the region of the world you are in
- Your email address, and optionally your first name and a LinkedIn or social profile link
Your answers are saved as you go, one question at a time. If you stop part way through, we keep the answers you had already given, although without your email address they are unlikely to identify you.
We also collect limited technical information automatically when you visit:
- Which sections of the page you view, which buttons you click and how far you get through the form
- Where you came from, such as the advertisement or link you clicked, including campaign tags and the click IDs that advertising platforms add to links
- Your device type, screen width and browser details
- The country you are visiting from, which our hosting provider works out from your connection. We do not store your IP address
3. Cookies and tracking technologies
This site uses the LinkedIn Insight Tag, provided by LinkedIn Corporation, to measure the performance of our LinkedIn advertising, to understand which advertisements lead to people joining the waitlist, and to build audiences for our advertising. When you visit our public pages, the tag may set cookies or use similar technologies in your browser and send LinkedIn information such as the page you visited, your IP address and your browser and device details. When you join the waitlist, it also records that a sign-up took place. We do not send your name, email address or answers to LinkedIn.
If you are in the European Union, the wider European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, or if we cannot tell where you are, the LinkedIn tag does not load until you choose Accept on our cookie banner. In other places it loads by default. Either way, you can change your mind at any time using “Cookie settings” at the bottom of any page. We remember your choice in your browser’s local storage for up to 12 months, and it is not sent to us.
You can control cookies through your browser settings, and manage how LinkedIn uses your information for advertising through your LinkedIn account settings or the guest controls at linkedin.com/psettings/guest-controls. LinkedIn handles the information it collects under its own privacy policy.
Apart from the cookies set by LinkedIn’s tag, this site does not set cookies for visitors. To tell one visit from another, our own system keeps a random identifier in your browser’s session storage, which is cleared when you close the tab. It does not contain your name or email. We do not currently use any other third-party analytics or advertising tools, and if we add more we will update this policy first.
Our team signs in to a private dashboard to view waitlist data. That area uses a sign-in cookie, and it does not apply to visitors.
4. How we use your information
- To tell you when Confidant opens and to invite you to use it
- To decide which industries and regions we launch in first
- To contact people who say they would like to be advisors about how to apply
- To understand which advertising brings in the people we are trying to reach, and to improve this website
- To keep the site secure and to meet our legal obligations
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use the details you give us to build profiles for other companies.
If you share a LinkedIn or social profile link, it is optional. We may look at the public information on it to understand your background. We do not collect anything from it automatically.
5. Email and your consent
By joining the waitlist you agree that we may email you about Confidant. We will keep these emails to the waitlist, the launch and, if you said you want to be an advisor, advisor onboarding. Every email will include a way to unsubscribe, and you can also ask us to remove you at any time using the details in Section 13. This is in line with the Spam Act 2003 (Cth).
6. Data storage and security
Waitlist information is stored with Cloudflare, which hosts this website and its database. Cloudflare operates a global network, so your information may be stored or processed in countries other than Australia, including the United States. Where that happens we rely on the safeguards our provider offers and take reasonable steps to ensure the information is handled consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles, including Principle 8 on cross-border disclosure.
Information collected by the LinkedIn Insight Tag is processed by LinkedIn Corporation, which may transfer it to servers outside Australia, including in the United States, under its own privacy terms.
The website uses HTTPS, access to the waitlist data is limited to the Confidant team and protected by a password, and we take reasonable steps to protect your information from misuse and loss. No system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee that information will never be accessed without authority.
7. Sharing of information
We share information only with service providers who help us run this website and the waitlist, such as hosting and email providers, and they must keep it confidential and secure. We also share limited technical information with LinkedIn through its Insight Tag, as described in Section 3. We may disclose information if the law requires it. We do not sell or rent your personal information.
8. How long we keep your information
We keep waitlist details for up to 24 months after our last contact with you, or until you ask us to delete them, whichever comes first. If you stop before giving us your email address, we delete or de-identify your partial answers within 12 months. We may keep information for longer where the law requires it.
9. Your rights and how to complain
You can ask us to access, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you, or to stop emailing you, by contacting us using the details in Section 13.
If you are concerned about how we have handled your information, please contact us first so we can try to resolve it directly. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.
10. Data breach notification
At the waitlist stage we hold a small amount of personal information and no sensitive information. If a data breach is likely to cause serious harm, we will notify the people affected and the OAIC as required by the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
11. Children’s privacy
This website is intended for people aged 18 and over and is not directed at children.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Confidant develops, and will change the “last updated” date above when we do. If we make a significant change to how we use your information, we will let you know.
